Estimated reading time 1 minute

Effective 1 April 2009 the statutory entitlement to paid holiday will increase to 5.6 weeks, inclusive of bank holidays.  For an employee working a 5 day week in England where there are 8 bank holidays per year this means that they will be entitled to a total 4 weeks plus bank holidays.

Provided an employee takes a minimum of 4 weeks holiday per year it is possible for employees to carry over the remainder of their entitlement to the following holiday year, although employers are not obliged to agree this.

Action required

For most employers current arrangements will meet or exceed the new statutory minimum and no further action will be required.
